Hope was not the first name chosen for this community. It was known as Johannesberg, but in 1920, US Hwy 60 was built, bypassing the town. Residents moved closer to the highway and named their new community Hope, in hopes that they would not have to move again and that their businesses would rebound. In the early 1980’s, the highway did move again, but this time, the residents did not give up HOPE!!
