Hope is located within La Paz County, a county that includes a number of rural communities. Views such as this are not uncommon with the county's large tracts of undeveloped land. Other communities within La Paz County are Parker, Quartzsite and Salome. The county encompasses approximately 4,500 square miles of desert, rivers, lakes, streams, mountain ranges, and valleys.

Salome is probably the only town that can boast of having a "town" dog. During the day Topper makes his home in front of the Cactus Bar. Salome is also interesting in the origin of its name. According to lore, the wife of the town's founder, Salome Pratt, took off her shoes and danced when the hot sand burned her feet. As a result, the town became "Salome", where she danced.
